Work
in Progress w/ Judy Insley
WIP
has a blast sharing a repertoire that spans the stylistic spectrum of
American music and beyond, occasionally visiting the British Isles,
Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Whether drawing
from an ever-expanding body of original material or playing other
artists' blues, jazz, folk, classical, bluegrass or pop creations, WIP
delivers a performance filled with fun, passion and fearlessness.
This is a band that isn't afraid to put their own spin on a familiar
song, to create vocal harmonies where there were none or to juxtapose
styles in a way that stops people in their tracks. Whether folks
are music aficionados, casual listeners or just out for a good time,
they leave a WIP show knowing they have experienced something
satisfying and unique.
Judy
Insley spent her early childhood on 77 acres of rolling Michigan
fields surrounded by horses and music, which became her passion in
life. After years of performing “cover” tunes and occasional
originals in various folk/rock bands, duos and trios, a health crisis,
surgery and lengthy recovery in late 1998 through 1999 forced her to
sit back and re-evaluate her musical goals and direction.
Inspired by Dr. Wayne Dyer during a lecture in which he admonished
“Don’t die with your music still in you,” Judy decided to
concentrate on her songwriting and step out as a solo artist.
She is
also a member of Southeast Michigan's Songwriters Anonymous
collective and also teaches acoustic guitar, beginning mandolin and
beginning songwriting.

“Combine
a beautiful female voice, fine fiddling, and solid guitar/songwriting
and you have much more than a ‘Work in Progress’ - How about
‘Ahead of the Curve’?” – David Roth
"Judy Insley writes smart and poetic
folk-themed songs with her own view of a world we all want to belong
to. Judy's tender voice and intricate guitar style offer the listener
a chance to relax, soak it in and become part of that wonderful world...You'll
feel an insurgence of warmth from the first song that will cover you
like a familiar blanket." - Craig Carrick, Music Director -
