Kenny
Meeks w/ Katy Bowser and Kenny Hutson
Recording
artist and songwriter Kenny Meeks has recently released his newest
solo effort, "Unfaded", with help from 2 Grammy award
winners, producer Andrew Ramsey, and engineer Hank Williams.
This soulful country-rocker's roots project features two guest
vocalists, the soulful Nicole Smith, and the angelic solo artist
Sandra McCracken.
In 2000, he released his debut album, "Tell My Angel", to
warm AAA and country radio reception and critical praise. Fans enjoy
Julie Miller's guest vocals on 3 songs. Sixpence None the
Richer's Leigh Nash's (Meeks' former band mate) haunting duet vocals
on the title track alone are well worth worth the price of the
CD. Kenny's 2003 sophomore release, Blue Chapel, is a gospel
project. He wrote and performed bluesy gospel songs mostly live in the
studio, channeling Rev. Gary Davis and Pops Staples. In addition
to self-producing each of his own albums, Kenny often wears other hats
as musician, and producer, usually to help friends in their creative
endeavors. He appears on Jonny Lang's new "Turn Around" cd,
on a cut with Sam Bush and Buddy Miller. He co-produced urban folk
singer-songwriter Jan Krist's 2001 release, the masterful and
sometimes jazzy "Outpost of the Counterculture". Kenny was
also co-producer of Derek Webb's powerful 2003 solo debut, "She
Must and Shall Go Free."
Kenny is originally from the Detroit area and is a longtime friend of
Trinity House Theatre.
Four
score and seven years ago or so, bluegrass, jazz and folk were all
gestating in the womb of the southeast US, joining and splitting,
creating original American music. Katy Bowsers music is a small
reenactment this phenomenon: Katy grew up on jazz, moved to Nashville,
messed around with a lot of music, and found her foil in a boy brought
up on bluegrass. Thus we have her brand new EP, All Of My Friends.
Since Katy and Kenny crossed paths, its
no surprise that the songs Katy sings began to turn a new set of heads
in Nashville. Their high energy, playful performance is one obvious
reason- no two shows are alike, and oftentimes a Katy show will
suddenly take a turn down memory lane toward one of the many old jazz
or country tunes they love, for kicks. But in a town that reveres its
history and respects innovation, Katys singing and Kennys virtuosity
on guitar, mandolin, pedal steel, lap steel and most other things with
strings have garnered respect and high praise from their peers. Their
songs about the golden rule, traveling, overprotective girlfriends,
gospel, and forward woman are delighting afficionados and everyday
music lovers across the board.
This record is equal parts front porch,
creaky swing, and homemade lemonade, served up in a martini
glass...the perfect blend of roots music and dancehall swing.” Dara
Carson, Producer, founder of Americana Folk Festival Along with
extra-fine singing, playing, and songwriting, Katy offers up a fresh
take on old wisdom, which, to my ear, sounds of the moment.

"My car has a
space between the seats that holds only 5 CD's. Most of 'em
are new things that I 'have' to listen to. This CD is there
because I love it" - Freighttrainboogie.com, referring to

“The title cut, All of My
Friends, brings to mind the sweet-spirited performances of Maria
Muldaur and Melanie---street-wise innocence. Along with extra-fine
singing, playing, and songwriting, Katy offers up a fresh take on
old wisdom, which, to my ear, sounds of the moment. ” - Dave
Perkins, recording artist/musician with Ray Charles, Carole King,
