Theater Company and Trinity House Theatre present
Neil
Simon's, THE GOOD DOCTOR
Directed
by Mary Bremer
Before he penned "The Sea
Gull" and "The Three Sisters", Chekhov paid
his way through med-school by writing comedy for newspapers.
Before he wrote "The Odd
Couple," and "Barefoot in the Park," he wrote
the side-splitting comedy "The Good Doctor". This Neil Simon
tribute to the whimsical side of Anton
Chekhov hits the stage of Trinity
House Theater on Friday, May 6th 2005.
The play isn’t a play at all, really.
It’s more a string of vaudevillian
sketches, sewn together by a character called the Writer,
played by Charles Van Hoose. Expect a wild ride through Neil
Simon’s comic fancy. Watch as a slick man tries his hand at seducing
a married woman (played by Maggie Patton), only to find that
she’s been in control of the interlude all along. Laugh at Simon’s
take on the classic Chekhov tale of the man who offers to drown
himself for three rubles. Be on hand as a pain-a-phobic Sexton,
receives dental work from a fumbling student.
Award winning Director, Mary Bremmer,
leads the cast which also includes
Ann Bleecker, Alan Madlane, Eli Magid, Kathryn Ruth Mayer and
Peter C. Prouty. "This is my favorite Neil Simon play," says
Bremmer, " and my actors are
hysterically funny."
The
show opens on Friday, May 6th and will have performances
on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through May 22nd.
Performances are at 8:00pm on Friday (The Friday May 6 performance is

"The Good Doctor, of course, is
not a play at all. There are sketches, vaudeville scenes, if you
will, written with my non-consenting collaborator, Anton Chekhov.
Not the Chekhov of The Sea Gull and The Three Sisters, but the
young man who wrote humorous articles for the newspapers to pay
his way through medical school. It was a pastiche for me, an
enjoyable interlude before getting on to bigger things. It was, to
digress for a moment, a joyous experience for me. I met my wife
doing this one. Some of the scenes worked; others didn't. The
marriage, I'm glad to say, did." - Neil Simon
