Jay
Bennett & Edward Burch with Dolly Varden
Former
WILCO guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Jay Bennett,
and long-time collaborator, singer/songwriter, Edward Burch,
continue extensive U.S. tour to support their highly-acclaimed debut
release, The Palace at 4 A.M. (Part 1).
Jay
and Edward have been performing and writing together for several years
and The Palace at 4 A.M. (Part 1) showcases their unique chemistry.
Jay's brilliant arrangements and husky vocals paired with Edward's
haunting baritone and close harmonies flow together perfectly
throughout the album. Moody pop, raucous twang, and attitude-laden
Indie pop, mix and meld in these guitar and keyboard driven songs of
life and love.
Bennett has been widely lauded, both popularly and critically, as a
significant driving force behind the evolving sound, increasingly
mature songwriting and success of the twice-Grammy-nominated Wilco.
Bennett made his studio debut with Wilco on 1996's Being There and
stayed through the final sessions of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
High in demand as a session player and producer, Jay Bennett has
played on and/or produced albums with such notables as Sheryl Crow,
Jellyfish,
Allison Moorer, Tim Easton, Tommy Keene, and Garrison Starr,.
Jay and Edward will continue their busy touring schedule with the band
until the end of the year and will complete work on The Palace at 4am
(Part II) which is due to be released in early 2003.
Named after a colorful species of hard-to-catch trout, Chicago's Dolly
Varden has been making music since 1995. Fronted by the husband and
wife
singing-songwriting team of Stephen Dawson and Diane Christiansen,
Dolly Varden plays what has been called "unabashedly gorgeous Pop
music... an effortless meld of Rock, Country and Soul." The group has
developed a rare confidence and grace over the course of seven years,
three critically-acclaimed albums and hundreds of performances in the
U.S. and Europe. Their new album, Forgiven Now, is the band's most
focused effort yet.
For Dolly Varden's new album, Forgiven Now, the band returned to Brad
Jones' studio in Nashville. With more time and a new batch of inspired
songs, Jones helped guide the group to another musical peak.
Especially evident is Christiansen's blossoming songwriting talent,
and the growing
depth of a band. This is truly a full-band effort. Discussing the
album Dawson says, "when we lined these songs up back to back there
seemed to
be a common link...so many of them seemed to be about leaving behind
resentments, trying to see a bigger picture. That's where the title
comes from." Stephen and Diane will be performing as a duo for this
tour with Jay Bennett and Edward Burch.

" You'll be hooked by the way Bennett
and Burch mix the warm twang of the Beatles' Rubber Soul with the
opulent vigor of Elvis Costello's Imperial Bedroom. If there's a
Part II to this pop sunshine, may it come soon."
-Rolling Stone
"With clever lyrics and musical
hooks so unexpectedly abundant, the Part 1 of the title sounds
more promising than parenthetical."
-USA Today
"Chicago's Dolly Varden has
released another masterpiece of gloriously hooky pop flavored with
a generous dash of country. Forgiven Now is a high-water mark for
this band and its leaders, Steve Dawson and Diane Christensen.
Their thoughtful lyrics, gorgeous melodies, excellent musicianship
and wonderful singing add up to just the kind of music the major
labels believe consumers aren't interested in. This is one of the
best albums you're likely to hear this year."
