Rani
Arbo and Brooks Williams w/Paul
Murphy, Heather Dean and Don Gulish
Brooks Williams is an intelligent,
soulful songwriter and eclectic, masterful guitarist. While many
musicians are content to stay within a narrow stylistic vein, Brooks
Williams has continued to explore new musical horizons. His
deep-rooted appreciation of spirituals, his love affair with jazz, and
his explorations of African, Brazilian, and
Caribbean music, are just part of his broad musical palette. His
singing, always rich and smooth, is now more direct and emotive than
ever.
In October 2001 Rani Arbo
and Brooks Williams joined forces to create a new duo show that blends
the fiddle and guitar, their two rich voices, and a powerful and
eclectic collection of original, traditional, and cover songs.
Longtime veterans of the national folk scene with numerous albums
behind them, Arbo and Williams are delighted to debut their new combo
for mid-western audiences this month.
Opening the show will be
Paul Murphy, Heather Dean and Don Gulish. This trio, with Murphy on
guitar, Dean on vocals, and Gulish on percussion, delighted those who
attended the Trinity House Christmas Around the House
show.

"In person and
on disc, Arbo's sultry vocals rivet the listener with the
ring of truth."
-The
Boston Globe
"Arbo's voice is smart and sultry, with winking nuances that seem
always to be sharing secrets with us. Her fiddle is at once
elegant and sinewy, shimmering with sly wit and mystery. She is,
in all the important ways, already a star of the first order."
-The
Boston Globe
"A consummate artist, Williams ranks
among America's musical treasures."
-Dirty Linen
"It is time to check out Brooks Williams. With the heart of a poet
and
the sound of a troubadour, he is a stunning musician with a bold
vision."
